About the Institute

The Institute of Economics was established by the Government of the People's Republic of Macedonia, with the Decree No. 704 of 30 June 1952 as an independent research institution within the Commercial Council of the Government. Upon the decision of the Council of the University "St. Cyril and Methodius" in Skopje, as of 1 January 1966, the Institute of Economics acquired the status of an independent scientific research institution and an equal member of the University.

During its years of development, the Institute has focused towards achieving public interest of the country, through government programs for the development of scientific research, in the field of economics.

The main activity of the Institute of Economics is the scientific research in the field of economics, education, training and improvement of research staff, the creation and development of research infrastructure, publishing, and other activities directly related to the achievement of the core business. During its 55 years of existence, the Institute has positioned itself as a significant factor in development of the economic thought in the country and its successful implementation in overcoming all practical problems in this area.
